“What I Want” – the new song by ABSENT AVERAGE
ABSENT AVERAGE were given their first radio airplay on the BBC Introducing programme on BBC Radio Sheffield, saturday 19th september 2015 when “What I Want” was aired at around 20.05.
“Absolutely adore that track! Very much looking forward to hearing more music from this duo.”
Christian Carlisle – BBC Radio Sheffield
Here are some highlights…
Liam Short’s and James Knight’s harmonies blend impeccably and beautifully throughout their songs. They exude a quiet confidence as well as an unabashed humility as they engage with each other and the audience.
Accompanying themselves on guitar, cajon and percussion, their flawless performance drew me into a joyful musical escape.
Their lifelong friendship is evident through their musical connection and gentle banter. Their feel good rapport is the perfect tonic for the hardships of life.
The dynamic duo ended their set with 2 original songs, the highlights of the evening. The rhythmic “What I Want” showcases Absent Average’s clean vocals. They deliver with their 18 year old energy as well as an “old soul” kind of passion. “Swings and Roundabouts” ebbs and flows with a mature musicality, flawless diction and their signature harmonies.
I can’t wait to hear more from Absent Average who are anything but average. catch them if you can.
Absent Average are…
…Liam and James, a singing/songwriting duo from High Green, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.
The boys are lifelong friends having met aged 4 at primary school. Both now 18 years of age, they sing beautifully together and accompany themselves on guitar, cajon and percussion. They have learned their craft busking on the streets of Sheffield and are now starting to make a name for themselves on the pub & club circuit.
Their live set is mainly contemporary covers of artists like Ed Sheeran, Passenger, Taylor Swift – classics from the Beatles, Jacksons and James Brown – and a few of their own original songs.
They released their first original song, “What I Want”, in august 2015 on Soundcloud.

@AbsentAverage looking great on stage at the #DiaryParty pic.twitter.com/T17cxebmvQ — Katie Isaacson (@katieisaacson) September 23, 2016 We played the MEN Diary Party on the 23rd of September. We loved every second of it, especially since we got to share the stage with X-Factor’s very own YES LAD, as well as the always riveting Rockaoke!
Come and see us at Standon Calling this summer – on saturday 30th july. We really can’t wait!!!
Last saturday we played our regular “last saturday of the month” gig at The Bridge in High Green. It’s a great local gig and we have a lot of fun playing it. Even though our set was interrupted this time by two really long fights on the TV. Thankfully so such trouble at the bar. […]
